The corps from 2006 worked so hard to reach the level of excellence that was achieved that many members and staff decided to step out of the activity. A solid core of people were left behind to start Black Knights next evolution. Simon Hastings stepped into the brass caption head role, with Tracy Trafford taking guard caption head with assistance from Jo Mcgrath.
The small drum section continued to work hard all year to put their show together, many thanks to everyone who found time to help.
Emma Weir taught the front line section. As always the corps battled through with their show “American Psycho: Hiding in plain sight” which contained “Rhapsody in Black”, New York New York, Creation, A Beautiful Mind, all arranged by Simon Hastings.
The corps finished a strong 3rd on the DCUK circuit with a score of 81.7. Again the corps returned to Europe, but with a much increased quality of corps at the event, BK fell just short of qualifying for the evening show, but it was great for the corps to get the rare opportunity to sit back and enjoy the Final performances.
Black Knights came out of 2007 much stronger than it began, after securing a Corps Director and seeing the return of 2 very well respected alumni, Steve Muzio and Rus Rogers. Once again Black Knights was heading back to do what it did best… Entertain the crowd
Cadets:
Charlene Bundock and Leighanne Bolton were given the role of joint guard caption heads, and Paul Richards was promoted to Brass Caption Head and Andrea Palmer joined the team to teach the pit. This show was called ‘The Knights Go Mad’ and comprised music by the popular 80’s Group Madness. The songs were, ‘House of Fun’, ‘Baggy Trousers’, ‘It Must be Love’, ‘Driving in My Car’, and ‘Our House’, arrangements were by Gary Wooldridge, Vicky Richards and also Garry Gardiner.
The show was devised at the request of our members and parents.
This year the competition rules were changed by DCUK so in order to compete in both circuits we had to perform two slightly different shows, but we became DCUK Junior Class Champions, and Runners-up in the BYBA Cadet Class.
For most, this will go down as one of the top 5 shows the group had done since starting up in 1997, and probably still is to this day
